A Week Between Wind & Water — My Kite Safari on the Red Sea

A Week Between Wind and Water — My Kite Safari in the Red Sea

There are trips you plan… and then there are trips that slowly take over your thoughts long before they begin.
For me, this was one of them.

A kite safari on the Red Sea — living on a yacht, waking up in new lagoons every day, chasing wind across untouched islands.
I didn’t fully know what to expect.

But by the end of the week, I understood why people come once… and never stop coming back.

Day 0 — Arrival & First Night at Sea

You arrive in Hurghada, slightly tired from travel, but already feeling the shift. The transfer takes you straight to the marina — and there she is, waiting.

Our beautiful yacht HERMES.

Shoes off, welcome drink in hand, a quick introduction to the crew and other guests — strangers who will soon feel like your circle.

We don’t rush.
Dinner is slow, warm, and somehow already feels like the beginning of something special.

Early in the morning we leave the marina.
You feel it — that soft movement of the boat, the quiet hum of the sea.

The adventure begins.

Day 1 — Tawila Island: The First Taste of Freedom

You wake up to stillness.

Then you step outside — and it hits you.
Flat, endless turquoise water. No buildings. No noise. Just wind.

This is Tawila Island.

Breakfast is quick — not because it isn’t good, but because no one wants to sit still. First session of the trip. Warm wind, waist-deep water, space in every direction. No crowds. No rules. Just riding.

By midday, everyone is already smiling like they’ve been here for a week. Afternoon blends into sunset. Some ride again, others float, drift, or just lie on the deck.

That night, dinner feels louder.
Stories start.

Day 2 & 3 — Ashrafi: Wild, Remote, Perfect

We sail deeper. Further north, further away from everything familiar — toward Ashrafi Island. The landscape changes. More raw. More untouched. The wind is stronger today.

You push a little harder — longer tacks, higher jumps.
Confidence builds quickly when the conditions are this forgiving.

At some point, someone spots dolphins. Boards stop. Everyone just watches. It’s not planned. That’s the beauty of it.

Dinner that night feels different — quieter, deeper. Like everyone is slowly syncing with the rhythm of the sea.

Day 4 — Joubal Island: BBQ, SUP & Barefoot Life

Today slows down — in the best way. We anchor near Joubal Island.

Morning session first — glassy water, steady wind, effortless riding.

Then something different.

SUP boards come out. People drift across the lagoon, no rush, no agenda. By afternoon, the crew is already preparing something on the island.

BBQ night.

We go ashore just before sunset. Barefoot in the sand, soft light, music somewhere in the background. Grilled food, laughter, a fire slowly growing as the sky turns dark. This isn’t just a kite trip anymore. It’s a moment you wish you could freeze.

Day 5 — Geisum North & South: Endless Space

Back to riding — and this is where it really clicks.

We move between North Geisum and South Geisum. The lagoons here feel endless. Perfect for long rides. nPerfect for progression. You try new tricks. You crash. You laugh. You land something you’ve been chasing for months. There’s always someone cheering. Someone filming. Someone handing you a cold drink when you come back.

By now, everyone knows each other. The group has changed — not in who they are, but in how connected they feel.

Day 6 — Last Sessions & Letting Go

The last full day always arrives too fast. You ride more. Longer. Trying to take it all in.

Every detail feels sharper — the color of the water, the wind on your face, the sound of the board cutting through flat lagoons.

No one really says it, but everyone feels it.

This is ending soon.

Dinner that night is special. A bit more dressed up. A bit more emotional.

Photos, laughs, “we have to do this again.”

And you know it’s true.

Day 7 — Back to Reality (Almost)

After the last kite session, we move back... closer to civilization.

Phones come back on.
Signals return.

But something stays different.

You leave the boat — but part of you is still out there, somewhere between islands, wind, and water.
